Continuing Recovery Center began not with corporate backing, but with a shared vision for a supportive place where people could rebuild their lives.
CRC was founded by Mary Kay Sinclair and Mary Howard, who recognized the need for a safe, supportive bridge between treatment and independent living. They knew the months immediately following detox can be both critical and fragile, and they were determined to create a stable, welcoming home where residents could focus on lasting recovery.
Mary Kay, a former newspaper worker, and Mary, a retired coal miner, combined compassion, determination, and a strong commitment to serving others. They envisioned a place where each person would be known, valued, and given the chance for a fresh start.
To bring their vision to life, they chose a vacant red-brick grade school in the quiet town of Irving. They transformed its old classrooms into comfortable residential spaces, trading an institutional atmosphere for the warmth, safety, and comfort of a true home.
June 1987
CRC officially opened as a recovery community grounded in 12-step principles, structured support, practical life skills, and peer connection.
October 1992
The building was dedicated to Jesse Kershaw, an essential figure who helped guide and protect this safe haven during its early years.
What began as a courageous leap of faith by two compassionate community members has become a vital lifeline. When you step through CRC's doors, you enter a place built on understanding, dignity, hope, and belief in a better future.
